Dr. Rajan Mahtani Shares Eulogy For Late Kenneth Kaunda

The Mahtani family and the entire Zambia recently work up with the disheartening news of loss of its beloved Ex-President, Kenneth Kaunda. Kenneth Kaunda was considered as the ‘Father of the Zambian nation and African Union’ as well as the ‘Independence Hero’ of Zambia. His contributions towards the development of the Zambian nation has been unique. His loss is certainly a disheartening fact for the Zambians. Kenneth Kaunda was the first President of Zambia after its recognition as a nation and after independence. During his presidency, he dedicated his life towards the upliftment of the Zambian people. He was known as an extraordinary person with a life which has been regarded as exemplary and principled. He was known for his extreme faith in god, his selflessness as well as putting others before himself. He took inspiration from the sacrificial engagement of the God and dedicated his life towards the development of his people.

Late Dr. Kaunda and Dr. Mahtani shared many attributes. These attributes are obvious considering the fact that Dr. Mahtani’s father, Late Lekhraj Mahtani played an instrumental role in Kenneth Kaunda’s quest for independence. Late Lekhraj Mahtani was a councillor from Ndola and provided significant support and collaboration to Dr. Kaunda so that the latter can achieve his goals of Zambian independence. These traits of honesty, integrity and ethics were seen in Late Lekhraj Mahtani, Late Kenneth Kaunda and now are observed in Dr. Rajan Mahtani in his business ventures as well as his philanthropic and charitable activities.

One of the greatest achievements by Dr. Kaunda was uniting more than 73 tribes across Zambia and transforming the economy and political scenario of a naïve nation. While his demise is absolutely disheartening, it is also a time for the Zambians to take his legacy forward. Kenneth Kaunda believed in the motto ‘One Zambia, One Nation’ and now it is in the hands of the young Zambians to ensure that this legacy established by Dr. Kaunda is taken forward.
